Hadith #6190

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

إنَّ أسْرَعَ الشَّرِّ عِقاباً الظُّلْمُ۔

This can be translated as,

Verily the evil that brings the quickest retribution is injustice.

Let us delve into the meaning of the key words in this Hadith. The word (dhulm) "ظُلْم" refers to injustice, oppression, or wrongdoing. It encompasses any act that violates the rights of others or transgresses the boundaries set by Allah. It is important to note that injustice is not limited to physical harm, but also includes emotional, social, and economic injustices.

To understand the impactful message of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. In Surah Al-Anfal (8:25), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And fear the trial which affects not in particular (only) those of you who do wrong (but it may afflict all the good and the bad people), and know that Allah is severe in punishment.

This verse emphasizes that the consequences of injustice are not limited to the wrongdoers alone, but can also impact the entire society. Allah warns us to be cautious of the repercussions of our actions, as He is severe in punishment.

Whoever does an evil deed will not be recompensed except by the like thereof; but whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - those will enter Paradise, being given provision therein without account.

This verse highlights the principle of divine justice, stating that every act of injustice will be met with its equivalent retribution. Allah's justice is absolute and precise, ensuring that no injustice goes unpunished.

Therefore, it is incumbent upon Muslims to strive for justice in all aspects of life. The Quran repeatedly emphasizes the importance of justice and fair treatment towards others. In Surah An-Nisa (4:135), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.

This verse highlights the importance of upholding justice, even if it goes against our personal interests or the interests of our loved ones. It emphasizes that Allah's command to be just takes precedence over any personal biases or desires. By adhering to the principles of justice, we not only fulfill our obligations as Muslims but also contribute to the establishment of a just and harmonious society.
