(Ghurar al-Hikam: Divine Decree And Destiny)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,
كُلُّ شَيْء فيهِ حيلَةٌ إلاّ القَضاءُ۔
This can be translated as,
Everything has a way out except [what has been decided by] divine decree.
Let us delve into the meaning of the important words in this Hadith. The word (hīlah) "حيلة" refers to a means or a way out of a difficult situation. It implies finding a solution or a path to overcome challenges. On the other hand, (al-qadā) "القَضاء" refers to divine decree or predestination, which is the ultimate decision made by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) regarding all matters.
To understand the meaning of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Talaq, verse 2-3:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.
These verses highlight the concept of finding a way out or a solution in times of difficulty. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) assures us that if we fear Him and rely on Him, He will provide us with a way out. This aligns with the message of the Hadith, emphasizing that there is always a means or a solution available for every situation, except for what has been decreed by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
It is important to note that divine decree is a fundamental aspect of our faith. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is the All-Knowing and All-Wise, and His decree encompasses everything that happens in this world. As Muslims, we believe in the concept of predestination, understanding that everything that occurs is according to the divine plan and wisdom of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
This Hadith serves as a reminder for us to have trust in Allah's decree and to seek His guidance and assistance in times of difficulty. It teaches us that while we may face challenges and obstacles in life, there is always a way out, a solution that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) provides. It encourages us to turn to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) in prayer, seeking His help and guidance, knowing that He is the ultimate source of relief and ease.
Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his profound knowledge and wisdom, reminds us of the importance of recognizing the limits of our own abilities and relying on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) in all matters. He teaches us that while we may strive and make efforts to overcome challenges, ultimately, it is Allah's decree that prevails.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us that everything in this world has a way out or a solution, except for what has been decreed by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It emphasizes the importance of relying on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) in times of difficulty, seeking His guidance and assistance. It encourages us to trust in Allah's divine plan and to have faith that He will provide us with the means to overcome any challenge we face. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the wisdom and strength to understand and implement the teachings of this Hadith in our lives.
