Hadith #8164

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "لاعَمَلَ لِغافِل۔" This can be translated as,

No deed is accepted from the negligent one.

To understand the significance behind this statement, let us delve into the important words used in this Hadith.

The word (la'amala) "لاعَمَلَ" refers to any action or deed performed by an individual. It encompasses both physical acts and spiritual endeavors. And never say of anything, 'Indeed, I will do that tomorrow,' except [when adding], 'If Allah wills.' And remember your Lord when you forget [it] and say, 'Perhaps my Lord will guide me to what is nearer than this to right conduct.'

This verse highlights the need for us to be mindful and aware of our intentions and actions. It reminds us that we should always seek Allah's guidance and be conscious of His will. Indeed, successful are the believers. Those who are during their prayer humbly submissive. And those who turn away from ill speech. And those who are observant of zakah. And those who guard their private parts. Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed. But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors.

This passage highlights the importance of being fully present and focused in our acts of worship, such as prayer. It emphasizes the need to refrain from engaging in idle or harmful speech and to fulfill our obligations, such as giving zakah. These actions require mindfulness and consciousness, and they are only accepted when performed with sincerity and devotion.

Now, let us reflect on the essence of Imam Ali's statement. He is reminding us that our deeds are not merely a checklist of actions to be performed, but rather a means to draw closer to Allah and attain His pleasure. When we approach our actions with negligence and lack of awareness, they lose their value and become empty rituals.

For example, if we pray without focusing on the words and meanings of the prayers, our prayer becomes a mechanical exercise devoid of spirituality. Similarly, if we engage in acts of charity without genuine compassion and concern for others, our charity loses its impact and becomes a hollow gesture.

Imam Ali's statement serves as a powerful reminder for us to be fully present and conscious in our actions. It urges us to cultivate mindfulness and intentionality in everything we do, whether it is worship, acts of kindness, or fulfilling our responsibilities. By doing so, we ensure that our deeds are accepted by Allah and that they have a positive impact on our spiritual growth and the well-being of others.
