(Ghurar al-Hikam: Seeking Protection From Allah)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

Mani'tasama billahi 'azza matlubuhu.

This Hadith can be translated as,

Whoever clings to Allah, his wish is fulfilled [and his goal is achieved].

Let us delve into the significance of this Hadith in light of the Quran.

The key word in this Hadith is "i'tasama," which means to cling or hold tightly. It signifies a strong and unwavering attachment to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). When a person clings to Allah, it implies that they have complete trust, reliance, and dependence on Him. It is a state of surrendering oneself to the will of Allah and seeking His guidance and support in all matters.

This concept of clinging to Allah is beautifully emphasized in the Quran. In Surah Al-Imran (3:160), Allah says,

If Allah should aid you, no one can overcome you; but if He should forsake you, who is there that can aid you after Him? And upon Allah let the believers rely.

This verse highlights the importance of relying on Allah alone, for He is the ultimate source of help and support. When we cling to Allah, we acknowledge our dependence on Him and recognize that He is the only one who can fulfill our needs and desires.

Furthermore, the Hadith states that when one clings to Allah, their wish is fulfilled and their goal is achieved. This implies that when we place our trust in Allah and seek His assistance, He will grant us what is best for us, whether it be in this world or the Hereafter. Allah says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:186),

And when My servants ask you concerning Me, indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me.

This verse assures us that Allah hears our prayers and responds to our supplications. Therefore, when we cling to Allah, we can be confident that He will answer our prayers and fulfill our wishes according to His wisdom and divine plan.

Clinging to Allah also has profound consequences in our lives. It strengthens our faith and deepens our connection with our Creator. It instills in us a sense of contentment and tranquility, knowing that we have entrusted our affairs to the All-Knowing and All-Powerful. Moreover, clinging to Allah enables us to overcome challenges and adversities with patience and resilience, for we are aware that He is always with us, guiding and protecting us.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his immense knowledge and wisdom, reminds us of the importance of clinging to Allah. His words serve as a reminder that true success lies in our attachment to the Divine. By seeking closeness to Allah and relying on Him wholeheartedly, we can attain fulfillment in this life and the Hereafter.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us the significance of clinging to Allah and placing our complete trust in Him. It encourages us to rely on Allah alone, knowing that He is the source of all our needs and desires. By doing so, we can experience the fulfillment of our wishes and the achievement of our goals. May Allah grant us the ability to cling to Him and find solace in His divine presence.
