Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the significance of the Qur'an on the Day of Judgment. Let us delve into the exegesis of this thought-provoking saying.

The first important word in this Hadith is (shafa'a) "شَفَعَ", which means intercession. It refers to the act of seeking someone's help or intervention on behalf of another. In this context, it signifies the Qur'an interceding for a person on the Day of Judgment. The second important word is (suddiqa) "صُدِّقَ", which means to testify or affirm. It signifies the Qur'an testifying for or against an individual.

To understand the significance of the Qur'an's intercession and testimony, we turn to the Qur'an itself. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Isra (17:79),

And during the night, rise from sleep for prayer as an additional offering for you; it is expected that your Lord will resurrect you to a praised station.

This verse emphasizes the importance of the night prayer, which includes recitation and reflection upon the Qur'an. By engaging with the Qur'an, we establish a connection with it, and it becomes a means of intercession for us on the Day of Judgment.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Furqan (25:30), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And the Messenger has said, 'O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur'an as [a thing] abandoned.'

This verse highlights the responsibility of the believers to not neglect the Qur'an. By actively engaging with the Qur'an and implementing its teachings in our lives, we ensure that it testifies for us on the Day of Judgment.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement emphasizes the consequences of our relationship with the Qur'an. If the Qur'an intercedes for us, our pleas for forgiveness and mercy will be accepted. This intercession is a reflection of our sincere efforts to understand and implement the teachings of the Qur'an in our lives. On the other hand, if the Qur'an complains about us, it signifies our neglect and disregard for its guidance. This complaint will serve as a testimony against us, affirming our failure to fulfill our responsibilities towards the Qur'an.

The motivation behind seeking the Qur'an's intercession and avoiding its complaint lies in the immense rewards and blessings promised by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). In Surah Al-Baqarah (2:197), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is Taqwa. So fear Me, O you of understanding.

Taqwa, often translated as God-consciousness or piety, is nurtured through our relationship with the Qur'an. By seeking the Qur'an's intercession, we strive to attain the highest level of Taqwa and secure the ultimate provision for the Hereafter.

The consequences of the Qur'an's intercession or complaint are profound. It is a reflection of our commitment to seeking knowledge, understanding, and implementing the teachings of the Qur'an. The Qur'an is a source of guidance, wisdom, and mercy for all Muslims. It is incumbent upon us to engage with it, reflect upon its verses, and apply its teachings in our daily lives. By doing so, we ensure that the Qur'an intercedes for us on the Day of Judgment, testifying to our dedication and sincerity. Conversely, neglecting the Qur'an and failing to fulfill our responsibilities towards it will result in its complaint, affirming our disregard for its guidance.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the significance of the Qur'an's intercession and testimony on the Day of Judgment. It highlights the importance of actively engaging with the Qur'an, seeking its guidance, and implementing its teachings in our lives. By doing so, we strive to attain the Qur'an's intercession and avoid its complaint, securing the ultimate reward and blessings promised by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to establish a deep connection with the Qur'an and benefit from its intercession on the Day of Judgment.
