(Ghurar al-Hikam: Knocking The Door)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad (), his purified progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

Mani istadama qar'a al-bab walajja walaja.

This Hadith emphasizes the importance of persistence and perseverance in achieving our goals. The word "istadama" means to continue or persist, "qar'a" refers to knocking, and "bab" means door. The phrase "walajja walaja" signifies that through persistence, one will eventually enter and succeed.

To understand the deeper meaning of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) encourages us to be steadfast and persistent in our endeavors. In Surah Al-Imran, verse 200, Allah says,

O you who have believed, be patient and endure and remain stationed and fear Allah that you may be successful.

This verse reminds us that success comes to those who are patient, steadfast, and persistent in their efforts.

Additionally, in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 45, Allah says,

And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah].

This verse highlights the importance of patience and perseverance in seeking Allah's assistance. It teaches us that through patience and prayer, we can overcome the challenges we face and achieve our goals.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a practical reminder of the Quranic teachings. It encourages us to continue knocking on the door of opportunity, even when faced with obstacles or setbacks. Just as a persistent person eventually enters through the door, our persistence in pursuing our goals will lead us to success.

This Hadith also teaches us the importance of determination and resilience. It reminds us that success does not come easily or instantly. It requires consistent effort, perseverance, and a strong belief in our abilities. When faced with challenges, we should not give up or lose hope. Instead, we should remain steadfast and continue striving towards our objectives.

Furthermore, this Hadith highlights the importance of taking action and making an effort. Merely desiring or wishing for something is not enough. We must actively pursue our goals and persistently work towards them. As Allah says in Surah Al-Insan, verse 3,

Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful.

This verse reminds us that Allah guides those who take action and make an effort, regardless of the outcome.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us the value of persistence, determination, and resilience. It reminds us to remain steadfast in our pursuits, even when faced with challenges and obstacles. By seeking inspiration from the Quranic teachings and implementing them in our lives, we can develop the qualities necessary to achieve success. May Allah grant us the strength and perseverance to continue knocking on the doors of opportunity until we enter through them.
