Hadith #5015

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds, and blessings and peace be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure Ahl al-Bayt (عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّلَامُ), and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "السَّهَرُ رَوْضَةُ الْمُشْتاقينَ۔" This can be translated as,

Night vigil is the garden of those who yearn [nearness of Allah].

Let us delve into the essence of this Hadith in light of the Quran.

The word (sahar) "سَهَر" refers to staying awake during the night, particularly for the purpose of worship and seeking closeness to Allah. It is an act of devotion that requires sacrifice and dedication. The word (rawdah) "روضة" means a garden or a place of beauty and tranquility. Stand [in prayer] at night, except for a little - Half of it - or subtract from it a little. Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation.

This verse encourages Muslims to engage in the night prayer, even if it is for a short duration. It highlights the significance of dedicating a portion of the night for worship and recitation of the Quran.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Isra (17:79), Allah says,

And during a part of the night, pray Tahajjud beyond what is incumbent on you; perhaps your Lord will raise you to a praised station.
