(Ghurar al-Hikam: Sustenance And One Who Seeks It)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

كُلُّكُمْ عِيالُ اللّهِ واللّهُ سُبْحانَهُ كافِلُ عِيالِهِ۔

This beautiful saying emphasizes that all of us, as Muslims, are the dependants of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It highlights the divine care and protection that Allah provides to His dependants.

The word (dependants) "عِيَالُ" in this Hadith refers to the believers, the followers of Islam. It signifies the close relationship between Allah and His servants, where He takes care of their needs and provides for them. The word (takes care) "كَافِلُ" indicates Allah's role as the ultimate provider and protector of His dependants.

To understand the connotation of this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes His care and protection for His servants. In Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 286, Allah says,

Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear.

This verse assures us that Allah knows our capabilities and will not burden us beyond our capacity to handle.

Furthermore, in Surah At-Talaq, verse 2-3, Allah says,

And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect.

These verses highlight Allah's promise to provide for His dependants, even in situations where they may feel helpless or hopeless. Allah's care extends to all aspects of our lives, including our physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us that as Muslims, we should have complete trust in Allah's care and protection. We should rely on Him in times of difficulty and seek His guidance and support. Just as a parent takes care of their children, Allah takes care of His dependants. This concept instills a sense of comfort and reassurance in our hearts, knowing that we are never alone in our struggles.

Moreover, this Hadith also highlights the importance of our responsibilities as dependants of Allah. Just as children have certain obligations towards their parents, we, as Allah's dependants, have a duty to worship Him, obey His commandments, and strive to please Him. Our actions should reflect our gratitude for His care and protection.

This Hadith also serves as a reminder of the profound knowledge possessed by Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ). His words echo the teachings of the Quran and provide us with a deeper understanding of our relationship with Allah. Imam Ali's wisdom and insight continue to guide and inspire Muslims to this day.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us that as Muslims, we are all the dependants of Allah. He is our ultimate provider and protector, and He takes care of our needs. This Hadith encourages us to have complete trust in Allah's care and to fulfill our responsibilities as His dependants. May we always seek His guidance and strive to please Him in all aspects of our lives.
