Hadith #5002

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

لَمْ يَسُدْ مَنِ افْتَقَرَ إخْوانُهُ إلى غَيْرِهِ۔

This Hadith emphasizes the importance of supporting and providing for one's own brothers and sisters in faith. The word (sud) "سُدْ" in this Hadith means to suffice or fulfill the needs of someone. The word (ikhwanuhu) "إخْوانُهُ" refers to one's brothers or fellow Muslims, and (ghayrihi) "غَيْرِهِ" means other than oneself.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the importance of brotherhood and supporting one another in the Muslim community. In Surah Al-Hujurat, Allah says, (49:10)

The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers

This verse highlights the unity and bond that should exist among Muslims, and the responsibility to resolve conflicts and support one another.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Ma'idah, Allah states, (5:2)

Help one another in righteousness and piety, but do not help one another in sin and aggression

This verse emphasizes the obligation to assist and support our fellow Muslims in matters of righteousness and goodness. It reminds us that true eminence lies in helping others and fulfilling their needs.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith serves as a reminder that a person who is unable to provide for the needs of their brothers and sisters in faith has not truly attained eminence. This Hadith encourages us to be proactive in supporting one another and ensuring that our fellow Muslims do not have to turn to others for their needs.

The consequences of neglecting this duty are far-reaching. When we fail to support our brothers and sisters, we risk creating divisions within the Muslim community and weakening the bonds of brotherhood. This can lead to a breakdown in unity and the loss of the collective strength that comes from supporting one another.

On the other hand, when we fulfill the needs of our fellow Muslims, we strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and create a sense of unity and solidarity within the community. This not only benefits the individuals receiving support but also contributes to the overall well-being and success of the Muslim ummah.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) was known for his profound knowledge and wisdom. His words in this Hadith highlight the importance of selflessness and generosity in Islam. By fulfilling the needs of our brothers and sisters, we not only attain eminence in the sight of Allah, but we also contribute to the growth and prosperity of the Muslim community as a whole.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the significance of supporting and providing for our fellow Muslims. It calls upon us to be proactive in fulfilling the needs of our brothers and sisters in faith, and to strive for unity and solidarity within the Muslim community.
