Hadith #7274

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "لايُلْفَى العاقِلُ مَغْرُوراً۔" This Hadith can be translated as,

The intelligent person is never found [to be] beguiled.

Let us delve into the significance of this statement in light of the Quran.

The word (aql) "عاقِلُ" in this Hadith refers to a person of intellect and wisdom. It encompasses the ability to think critically, make sound judgments, and possess deep understanding. Such an individual is not easily deceived or misled by false appearances or deceptive tactics. They possess the capacity to discern truth from falsehood and are not easily swayed by the illusions of this world.

Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) emphasizes the importance of intellect and wisdom in numerous verses of the Quran. For example, in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:269), Allah says,

He gives wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has certainly been given much good.

This verse highlights that wisdom is a divine gift bestowed upon those whom Allah chooses. It is a quality that elevates a person's character and enables them to navigate through life's challenges.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Qasas (28:14), Allah mentions the story of Prophet Musa (Moses) (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and describes him as (muddabir) "مُدَبِّرٍ", meaning one who possesses deep understanding and wisdom. Prophet Musa's intellect and wisdom played a crucial role in his mission and interactions with Pharaoh.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes that an intelligent person is never beguiled or deceived. This means that their intellect acts as a shield, protecting them from falling into the traps of falsehood and deception. They possess the ability to see through the illusions and recognize the truth.

This Hadith serves as a reminder for Muslims to cultivate and nurture their intellect and wisdom. It encourages us to seek knowledge, reflect upon the signs of Allah in the universe, and ponder over the teachings of the Quran. By doing so, we can develop a strong sense of discernment and protect ourselves from being misled.

An intelligent person is not easily swayed by the temptations of this world. They are not beguiled by material possessions, worldly desires, or the false promises of those who seek to deceive. Their intellect guides them towards what is right and just, enabling them to make informed decisions and avoid the pitfalls of ignorance and gullibility.

Moreover, the intelligence mentioned in this Hadith is not limited to worldly matters but extends to spiritual matters as well. An intelligent person recognizes the importance of their relationship with Allah and strives to deepen their understanding of the religion. They seek knowledge of the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) to strengthen their faith and protect themselves from deviant ideologies.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the importance of intellect and wisdom in our lives. It encourages us to seek knowledge, reflect upon the signs of Allah, and develop a strong sense of discernment. By doing so, we can protect ourselves from being beguiled and deceived, both in worldly matters and in matters of faith. May Allah grant us the ability to cultivate our intellect and wisdom and protect us from the traps of falsehood.
