The word (afat) "عَفَّتْ" in this Hadith refers to purity, chastity, and modesty. It implies the act of safeguarding oneself from engaging in immoral and indecent actions. By restraining oneself from such behavior, one's (atrāfu) "أطْرافُهُ" or flanks become chaste. The word (awsāfu) "أوْصافُهُ" refers to one's attributes or qualities.

And they who guard their private parts, except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed - But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors - And they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive.
This Quranic verse emphasizes the importance of guarding one's private parts and refraining from engaging in any form of illicit sexual behavior. It is through the preservation of one's chastity that a person's character is elevated and their moral standing is strengthened.
Furthermore, in Surah Al-Mu'minun (23:1-3), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) describes the successful believers, saying,
Certainly will the believers have succeeded: They who are during their prayer humbly submissive, And they who turn away from ill speech.
This verse highlights the importance of guarding one's tongue and refraining from engaging in ill speech. By avoiding gossip, slander, and backbiting, believers maintain the purity of their speech and enhance their attributes. Their words become a reflection of their inner purity, and their character is elevated in the eyes of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
