Hadith #8311

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

ما أفْحَشَ كَريمٌ قَطُّ۔

This can be translated as,

An honourable person never uses obscene language, ever.

In this thought-provoking Hadith, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the noble character of a true believer and emphasizes the importance of refraining from using vulgar and offensive language.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, let us delve into the meanings of the key words. The word (afhasha) "أفْحَشَ" refers to something that is obscene, indecent, or vulgar. And tell My servants to say that which is best. Indeed, Satan induces [dissension] among them. Indeed Satan is ever, to mankind, a clear enemy.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Mu'minun (23:3), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) describes the believers as those who

turn away from ill speech.

This verse emphasizes the need for Muslims to distance themselves from any form of vulgar or offensive language.
