Hadith #2828

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his family (Ahl al-Bayt), and his companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

مِنْ كَمالِ الحِلْمِ تَأْخِيرُ العُقُوبَةِ

which translates to

Delaying punishment is from the perfection of forbearance.

In the Quran, we find numerous verses that emphasize the importance of forbearance and patience. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Imran (3:134),

Those who spend [in Allah's cause] during ease and hardship and who restrain anger and who pardon the people - and Allah loves the doers of good.

Another verse that supports the concept of delaying punishment is found in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:235), where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

There is no blame upon you for that to which you [indirectly] allude concerning a proposal to women or for what you conceal within yourselves. Allah knows that you will have them in mind. But do not promise them secretly except for saying a proper saying. And do not determine to undertake a marriage contract until the decreed period reaches its end. And know that Allah knows what is within yourselves, so beware of Him. And know that Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing.

This verse teaches us that Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing, and He allows for the delay of certain decisions or actions until the appropriate time.
