Hadith #10476

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

مَنْ أصْلَحَ نَفْسَهُ مَلَكَها۔

This can be translated as,

One who reforms his soul gains mastery over it.

Let us delve into the essence of this Hadith in light of the Quran.

The word (aslaha) "أصْلَحَ" in this Hadith refers to the act of reforming or rectifying oneself. It implies striving to improve one's character, actions, and intentions in accordance with the teachings of Islam. By the soul and He who proportioned it, and inspired it with its wickedness and its righteousness. He has succeeded who purifies it, and he has failed who instills it with corruption.

It is our responsibility to strive for purification and righteousness, as success lies in reforming our souls. Indeed, Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) encourages us to take responsibility for our own souls and actively work towards self-improvement.
