(Ghurar al-Hikam: Relying On Allah)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his purified progeny, and his noble companions.
The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,
الثِّقَةُ بِاللّهِ أقْوى أمَل۔
This can be translated as,
Relying on Allah is the strongest hope.
This thought-provoking Hadith emphasizes the importance of placing our trust and reliance in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) above all else.
Let us delve deeper into the words of this Hadith. The word (ath-thiqah) "الثِّقَةُ" refers to trust, confidence, and reliance. It is derived from the root word (thiqah) "ثَقَة", which means to trust or have faith in someone. In this context, it signifies placing our complete trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and relying on Him alone.
The word (billah) "بِاللّهِ" means "on Allah." It emphasizes that our trust and reliance should be solely placed on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), the All-Powerful and All-Knowing. It reminds us that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is the ultimate source of strength, guidance, and support.
The phrase (aqwaa amal) "أقْوى أمَل" translates to "the strongest hope." It highlights the fact that relying on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is not just a mere hope, but the most powerful and unshakable hope that one can have. It signifies that when we place our trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), we can be assured of His assistance, mercy, and guidance.
This Hadith is beautifully aligned with the teachings of the Quran. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the importance of relying on Him and placing our trust in Him alone. In Surah Al-Anfal, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Quran 8:62)
And put your trust in Allah if you are believers indeed
This verse encourages us to have complete trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and rely on Him, especially during times of difficulty and uncertainty.
Furthermore, in Surah Az-Zumar, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states, (Quran 39:22)
So rely upon Allah; indeed, you are upon the clear truth
This verse reminds us that true reliance should be placed on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) alone, as He is the source of all truth and guidance.
When we rely on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), we experience numerous benefits. Firstly, it strengthens our faith and connection with Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). By recognizing that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is the ultimate source of all power and control, we develop a deep sense of humility and submission to His will.
Secondly, relying on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) brings us peace and tranquility in times of difficulty. When we face challenges, we can find solace in knowing that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is with us and will guide us through our struggles. This reliance on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) alleviates our anxieties and strengthens our resolve.
Thirdly, relying on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) empowers us to take positive action. When we trust in Allah's plan and His ability to assist us, we are motivated to work hard and strive for success. Our reliance on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) becomes a driving force that propels us forward, knowing that He is the ultimate source of all outcomes.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us that relying on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is the strongest hope we can have. By placing our complete trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), we strengthen our faith, find peace in difficult times, and are motivated to take positive action. Let us strive to internalize this profound teaching and make it a guiding principle in our lives as Muslims. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to rely on Him wholeheartedly and may He bless us with His infinite mercy and guidance.
