Hadith #4472

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his purified progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

كُنْ أبَداً راضياً بِما يَأتي بِهِ القَدَرُ۔

This can be translated as,

Always be pleased with what is brought by [divine] decree.

This thought-provoking Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) encapsulates a crucial aspect of our faith - the acceptance and contentment with the decree of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

To fully comprehend the depth of this Hadith, let us delve into the meanings of some important words. The word (radiyan) "راضياً" means being pleased, satisfied, or content. It signifies a state of tranquility and acceptance. The term (al-qadar) "القَدَرُ" refers to the divine decree or predestination of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It encompasses everything that happens in this world, whether it is good or seemingly unfavorable.

The Quran provides us with numerous verses that emphasize the importance of being content with the decree of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). In Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 216, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not.

This verse reminds us that our limited understanding may lead us to dislike something that is ultimately beneficial for us, while we may desire something that could be harmful.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Hadid, verse 23, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being - indeed that, for Allah, is easy.

This verse highlights the fact that every event, whether it is perceived as positive or negative, is part of Allah's divine plan. It is a reminder that Allah's wisdom surpasses our limited understanding, and we should trust in His decree.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement urges us to adopt a mindset of contentment and acceptance in the face of life's trials and tribulations. It teaches us that true faith lies in acknowledging that everything that comes our way is a result of Allah's decree, and there is wisdom behind it, even if we may not comprehend it fully.

By being pleased with the divine decree, we cultivate a sense of peace and trust in Allah's plan. This mindset allows us to navigate through the challenges of life with resilience and patience. It helps us avoid falling into despair or resentment when faced with hardships, knowing that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is the All-Wise and All-Knowing.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) himself exemplified this quality of contentment and acceptance. Despite facing numerous trials and tribulations throughout his life, he remained steadfast in his faith and unwavering in his trust in Allah's plan. His unwavering faith and acceptance of Allah's decree serve as an inspiration for all Muslims.
