In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "الْيَقِينُ يُثْمِرُ الزُّهْدَ" which translates to

Certitude bears the fruit of indifference towards worldly pleasures.

This enlightening Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the significance of certitude (yaqeen) in attaining a state of detachment from the materialistic aspects of this world.

The believers are only those who have believed in Allah and His Messenger and then doubt not but strive with their properties and their lives in the cause of Allah. It is those who are the truthful.

This verse emphasizes the importance of unwavering belief and conviction in Allah and His Messenger, which leads to selfless actions and detachment from worldly possessions.

Another verse that sheds light on the concept of certitude and detachment is found in Surah Al-Hashr (59:9), where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And those who, before them, had homes (in Al-Madinah) and had adopted the Faith, love those who emigrate to them, and have no jealousy in their breasts for that which they have been given (from the booty of Bani An-Nadir), and give them (emigrants) preference over themselves, even though they were in need of that. And whosoever is saved from his own covetousness, such are they who will be the successful.

This verse highlights the selflessness and detachment displayed by the early believers in Madinah, who preferred the needs of the emigrants over their own, despite their own material needs.

His deep knowledge and understanding of the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) allowed him to rise above the materialistic temptations of this world. He lived a life of simplicity and selflessness, prioritizing the welfare of others over his own desires.

The consequences of cultivating certitude and practicing zuhd are profound. By detaching ourselves from worldly pleasures, we free ourselves from the shackles of materialism and gain a sense of inner peace and contentment. Our focus shifts from accumulating wealth and possessions to seeking the pleasure of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) through acts of worship, charity, and serving humanity.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us that certitude is the key to attaining a state of indifference towards worldly pleasures. By firmly believing in Allah and His guidance, we develop a deep conviction that allows us to detach ourselves from the materialistic aspects of this world.
