لا يَصْدُقُ إيمانُ عَبْد حَتّى يَكُونَ بِما في يَدِ اللّهِ سُبْحانَهُ أوْثَقَ مِنْهُ بِما في يَدهِ۔

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Faith)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

The faith of a servant is not true until he is more confident of what is in the Hand of Allah, the Glorified, than what is in his own hand.

This thought-provoking Hadith emphasizes the importance of having complete trust and reliance on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and His divine decree.

Let us delve into the key words of this Hadith to gain a deeper understanding. The word (sadaqa) "صَدَقَ" means "to believe" or "to have faith." It signifies a genuine and sincere belief that is rooted in the heart. (iman) "إيمان" refers to faith, encompassing both belief in the heart and actions that reflect that belief. (abd) "عَبْد" refers to a servant or a worshipper of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

The Hadith highlights the importance of having complete trust in Allah's (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) control over everything. It states that a person's faith is not true until they have more confidence in what is in the Hand of Allah than what is in their own hand. This means that a true believer should have unwavering trust in Allah's power, wisdom, and knowledge, recognizing that everything is ultimately in His control.

To further understand the significance of this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Hadid (57:2),

To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills. He gives to whom He wills female [children], and He gives to whom He wills males.

This verse reminds us that Allah is the ultimate controller of all aspects of creation, including the gender of children. It emphasizes the need to trust in His divine plan, even when it may not align with our own desires.

Another verse that supports the message of the Hadith is found in Surah Al-Isra (17:80), where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And say: 'My Lord, cause me to enter a sound entrance and to exit a sound exit. And grant me from Yourself a supporting authority.'

This verse highlights the importance of seeking Allah's guidance and support in all matters of life. It reminds us to rely on Him completely, knowing that He is the ultimate source of strength and guidance.

Reflecting on the Hadith, we can see its profound implications for our faith and trust in Allah. When we prioritize our trust in Allah's decree over our own desires and plans, we align ourselves with the true essence of faith. This mindset allows us to navigate through life's challenges with patience and contentment, knowing that whatever Allah has decreed is ultimately for our own good.

Furthermore, having complete trust in Allah's control over everything helps us overcome anxiety and worry. We realize that our own abilities and possessions are limited, while Allah's power and knowledge are limitless. This realization leads to a sense of tranquility and peace, as we surrender ourselves to the will of Allah and place our trust in Him.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the importance of having complete trust in Allah's control over everything. It emphasizes that true faith requires us to be more confident in what is in the Hand of Allah than what is in our own hand. By relying on Allah's wisdom and guidance, we can navigate through life with patience, contentment, and peace. May Allah grant us the ability to strengthen our faith and trust in Him.
