The Ignorant And The Foolish

One who is ignorant of [a branch of] knowledge is hostile towards it. One who does not know where he is placing his foot, trips. One who is ignorant makes many blunders. One who is ignorant becomes self-conceited; and his ‘today’ is worse than his ‘yesterday’. It is from the nature of the ignorant to get angry quickly, in every situation. No one antagonizes the learned like the ignorant [do]. Woe be to the one who persists in his ignorance and blessed is the one who realizes [his mistake]... There is no independence for an ignorant person. The ignorant one is not seen to be anything but immoderate (or excessive). Nothing restrains the foolish except the edge of a sword. Disobey the ignorant and you will be safe.
