The Generous

The generous person is loved and praised, even if nothing of his generosity reaches his praiser,... اَلجَوادُ مَحْبُوبٌ، مَحْمُودٌ، وإنْ لَمْ يَصِلْ مِنْ جُودِهِ إلى مادِحِهِ شَيْءٌ، والبَخِيْلُ ضِدُّ ذلِكَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The one who is generous is praised in this world and felicitous in the Hereafter. اَلجَوادُ فِي الدُّنْيا مَحْمُودٌ، وَفِي الآخِرَةِ مَسْعُودٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Verily the masters of the people of this world (and the Hereafter) are the generous. إنَّما سادَةُ أهْلِ الدُّنْيا (والآخِرَةِ) الأجْوادُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be generous with the truth and miserly with falsehood. كُنْ جَواداً بِالحَقِّ، بَخيلاً بِالباطِلِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be [either] selflessly generous or moderate in giving but do not be from the third kind (i.e. the... كُنْ جَواداً مُؤْثِراً، أوْ مُقْتَصِداً مُقَدِرّاً، وإيّاكَ أنْ تَكُونَ الثّالِثَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
