Endeavours

The farthest endeavours are those that are closest to nobleness. أبْعَدُ الهِمَمِ أقْرَبُها مِنَ الكَرَمِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Worries [and concerns] are [proportionate] to the extent of [one’s] endeavours. بِقَدْرِ الهِمَمِ تَكُونُ الهُمُومُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The best endeavours are the loftiest of them. خَيْرُ الهِمَمِ أعْلاها۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be lofty in your endeavours when you seek something and honourable in victory when you overpower... كُنْ بَعيدَ الهِمَمِ إذا طَلَبْتَ، كَريمَ الظَّفَرِ إذا غَلَبْتَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One whose endeavour is great, his care [and attention towards it] becomes great. مَنْ كَبُرَ هِمَتُّهُ كَبُرَ اهْتِمامُهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One whose endeavour is insignificant, his merit is nullified. مَنْ صَغُرَتْ هِمَّتُهُ بَطَلَتْ فَضيلَتُهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One whose endeavour is honourable, his value becomes great. مَنْ شَرُفَتْ هِمَّتُهُ عَظُمَتْ قيمَتُهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One whose endeavour is great, his cause is worthy. مَنْ كَبرَتْ هِمَّتُهُ عَزَّ مَرامُهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Confine your endeavour to that which is necessary for you and do not enter into that which does not... اِقْصِرْ هِمَّتَكَ عَلى ما يَلْزِمُكَ، ولاتَخُضْ فيما لايَعْنيكَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who rises to the [higher] levels of endeavour [and determination] is glorified [and considered... مَنْ رَقى دَرَجاتِ الهِمَمِ عَظَّمَتْهُ الأُمَمُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One whose concern is not for [attaining] that which is with Allah, the Glorified, does not realize... مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ هَمُّهُ ما عِنْدَاللّهِ سُبْحانَهُ لَمْ يُدْرِكْ مُناهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Never concern yourself with anything except that which will earn you recompense and do not strive... لاتَهْتِمَنَّ إلاّ فيما يُكْسِبُكَ أجْراً ولاتَسْعَ إلاّ فِي اغْتِنامِ مَثُوبَة۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One’s zeal is [proportionate] to the extent of one’s endeavour. عَلى قَدْرِ الهِمَّةِ تَكُونُ الحَمِيَّةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The value of a man is proportionate to his endeavour and [the value of] his action is to the extent... قَدْرُ الرَّجُلِ عَلى قَدْرِهِمَّتِهِ، وعَمَلُهُ عَلى قَدْرِ نِيَّتِهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Nothing raises a person like his [earnest] endeavour and nothing lowers him like his lustful desire. ما رَفَعَ امْرَءً كَهِمَّتِهِ، ولاوَضَعَهُ كَشَهْوَتِهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The worries of a man are to the extent of his endeavour and his sense of honour is to the extent of... هُمُومُ الرَّجُلِ عَلى قَدْرِ هِمَّتِهِ، وغَيْرَتُهُ عَلى قَدْر حَمِيَّتِهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Do not make your family and children your greatest concern, for indeed if they are friends of... لاتَجْعَلْ أكْبَرَ هَمِّكَ بِأهْلِكَ ووَلَدِكَ، فَإنَّهُمْ إنْ يَكُونُوا أوْلِياءَ اللّهِ سُبْحانَهُ فَإنَّ اللّهَ لايُضَيِّعُ... —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Do not allow yourself to feel sorrow for what you have lost such that it preoccupies you from what... لاتُشْعِرْ قَلْبَكَ الْهَمَّ عَلى ما فاتَ، فَيَشْغَلَكَ عَمّا هُوَ آت۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
