Idle Talk

Keep away from idle talk, for the least of its damage is blame. اِجْتَنِبِ الهَذَرَ، فَأيْسَرُ جنايَتِهِ المَلامَةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Beware of idle talk, for the one whose talk increases, his sins [also] increase. إيّاكَ وَالهَذَرَ، فَمَنْ كَثُرَ كَلامُهُ كَثُرَتْ آثامُهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Idle talk takes one closer to [unpleasant] changes [in circumstances]. اَلْهَذَرُ مُقَرِّبٌ مِنَ الغِيَرِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Idle talk harms the soul. اَلْهَذَرُ يَأْتي عَلَى المُهْجَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Excessive idle talk earns disgrace. كَثْرَةُ الْهَذَرِ تُكْسِبُ العارَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
