Beware of talebearing, for indeed it plants [the seed of] rancour and distances one from Allah and... إيّاكَ والنَّمِيمَةَ، فَإنَّها تَزْرَعُ الضَّغِينَةَ، وتُبَعِّدُ عَنِ اللّهِ وَالنّاسِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The worst [type of] truthful speech is gossip. أسْوَءُ الصِّدْقِ النَّمِيمَةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Talebearing is the characteristic of a traitor. اَلنَّمِيمَةُ شيمَةُ المارِقِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Talebearing is an offense [and a sin] that cannot be forgotten. اَلنَّمِيمَةُ ذَنْبٌ لايُنْسى۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The worst trait is talebearing. بِئْسَ الشّيمَةُ النَّميمَةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who seeks to slander [others] by talebearing is fought by the near one and hated by the one who... مَنْ سَعى بِالنَّميمَةِ حارَبَهُ القَريبُ ومَقَتَهُ البَعيدُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who narrates to you [about others] narrates [to others] about you. مَنْ نَقَلَ إلَيْكَ نَقَلَ عَنْكَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Do not be quick in accepting the words of a talebearer, even if he resembles the good advisers, for... لاتَعْجِلَنَّ إلى تَصْديقِ واش وإنْ تَشَبَّهَ بِالنّاصِحينَ فَإنَّ السّاعِيَ ظالِمٌ لِمَنْ سَعى بِهِ غاشٌّ لِمَنْ سَعى إلَيْهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be neither scandalmongers nor revealers of others’ secrets. لاتَكُونُوا مَساييحَ ولامَذاييعَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Trustworthiness and talebearing do not go together. لاتَجْتَمِعُ أمانَةٌ ونَميمَةٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Belie slander and talebearing, whether it is false or true. أكْذِبِ السِّعايَةَ والنَّميمَةَ باطِلَةً كانَتْ أوْ صَحيحَةً۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The slanderer is a liar to the one whom he spreads his slander and an oppressor to the one whom he... اَلسّاعي كاذِبٌ لِمَنْ سَعى إلَيْهِ ظالِمٌ لِمَنْ سَعى عَلَيْهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
