Distinction

erily distinction is nothing but your giving that which you owe [of the rights of others] and... إنَّما المَجْدُ أنْ تُعْطِيَ فِي الغُرْمِ، وتَعْفُوَ عَنِ الجُرْمِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم He who has been forgone by praise does not attain distinction. لَمْ يُدْرِكِ المَجْدَ مَنْ عَداهُ الحَمْدُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم He who has been forgone by praise will not acquire distinction. مانالَ المَجْدَ مَنْ عَداهُ الحَمْدُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who lacks diligence does not attain distinction. ما أدْرَكَ المَجْدَ مَنْ فاتَهُ الجِدُّ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
