Moderation

Moderation makes [that which is] little grow [and increase]. اَلاِقْتِصادُ يُنْمِى القَليلَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Moderation makes the small grow [big]. اَلاِقْتِصادُ يُنْمِى اليَسيرَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Moderation [in one’s expenses] is half of livelihood. اَلاِقْتِصادُ نِصْفُ المَؤُنَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The bane of moderation is stinginess. آفَةُ الاِقْتِصادِ البُخْلُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be moderate in [your] affairs, for whoever is moderate, the burden of his expenses is lightened. خُذِ القَصْدَ فِي الأُمُورِ، فَمَنْ أخَذَ القَصْدَ خَفَّتْ عَلَيْهِ المُؤَنُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Our way is moderation and our practice is right guidance. طَريقَتُنا اَلقَصْدُ، وَسُنَّتُنا اَلرُّشْدُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم You must be moderate in your affairs, for the one who deviates from moderation is unjust and one... عَلَيْكَ بِالقَصْده فِي الأُمُورِ فَمَنْ عَدَلع عَنِ القَصْدِ جارَ، ومَنْ أخَذَ بِهِ عَدَلَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Espouse moderation, for indeed it is the most helpful thing in attaining a fruitful life; and a... عَلَيْكَ بالقَصْدِ فَإنَّهُ أعْوَنُ شَيْء عَلى حُسْنِ العَيْشِ، ولَنْ يَهْلِكَ امْرُؤٌ حَتّى يُؤْثِرَ شَهْوَتَهُ عَلى دينِهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Espouse moderation in food, for indeed it is farther from extravagance, healthier for the body and... عَلَيْكُمْ بِالقَصْدِ فِي المَطاعِمِ فَإنَّهُ أبْعَدُ مِنَ السَّرَفِ، وأصَحُّ لِلْبَدَنِ، وأعْوَنُ عَلَى العِبادَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The height of moderation is contentment. غايَةُ الاِقْتِصادِ القَناعَةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Everything that exceeds moderation is extravagance. كُلُّ ما زادَ عَلَى الاِقْتِصادِ إسْرافٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who is moderate will never be ruined. لَنْ يَهْلِكَ مَنِ اقْتَصَدَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم There is no wastage in moderation. لَيْسَ فِي الاِقْتِصادِ تَلَفٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who does not practice moderation is ruined by extravagance. مَنْ لَمْ يُحْسِنِ الاِقْتِصادَ أهْلَكَهُ الإسْرافُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Whoever is moderate, the burden of his expenses is lightened. مَنِ اقْتَصَدَ خَفَّتْ عَلَيْهِ المُؤَنُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who is moderate in [both] affluence and poverty has prepared himself for the calamities of time. مَنِ اقْتَصَدَ فِي الغِنى والفَقْرِ فَقَدِ اسْتَعَدَّ لِنَوائِبِ الدَّهْرِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Whoever adopts moderation, it will make his prosperity last and will make up for his poverty and... مَنْ صَحِبَ الاِقْتِصادَ دامَتْ صُحْبَةُ الغِنى لَهُ، وجَبَرَ الاِقْتِصادُ فَقْرَهُ وَخَلَلَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Being generous without extravagance and magnanimous without wastefulness is part of moderation. مِنَ الاِقْتِصادِ سَخاءٌ بِغَيْرِ سَرَف، ومُرُوَّةٌ بِغَيْرِ تَلَف۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم There is no ruin with moderation. لاهَلاكَ مَعَ اقْتِصاد۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Everything that one is contented with, suffices. كُلُّ مُقْتَصَر عَلَيْهِ كاف۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Let your riding mount be moderation and your goal be right guidance. لِيَكُنْ مَرْكَبُكَ القَصْدَ، ومَطْلَبُكَ الرُّشْدَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
