Power And Might

Dominating the weak and the slave are from the exigencies (or wickedness) of power. اَلتَّسَلُّطُ عَلَى الضَّعيفِ والمَمْلُوكِ مِنْ لُزُومِ (لُؤْمِ) القُدْرَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Power manifests the praiseworthy and blameworthy qualities [of an individual]. اَلْقُدْرَةُ تُظْهِرُ مَحْمُودَ الخِصالِ ومَذْمُومَها۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The bane of power is withholding favour. آفَةُ القُدْرَةِ مَنْعُ الإحْسانِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The bane of might is aggression and defiance. آفَةُ الاِقْتِدارِ اَلبَغْيُ والعُتُوُّ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Power makes one forget [about] self-preservation. اَلْقُدْرَةُ تُنْسِى الحَفيظَةَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم When power increases, desire decreases. إذا كَثُرَتِ القُدْرَةُ قَلَّتِ الشَّهْوَةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم When [one’s] capability is reduced, the offering of excuses increases. إذا قَلَّتِ المَقْدُرَةُ كَثُرَ التَّعَلُّلُ بِالمَعاذِيرِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The alms-tax of power is even-handedness. زَكاةُ القُدْرَةِ الإنْصافُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One of the best actions of the powerful person is for him to show forbearance when he is angry. مِنْ أحْسَنِ أفْعالِ القادِرِ أنْ يَغْضِبَ فَيَحْلُمَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
