Poverty is beneficial for the believer, and gives him comfort from the jealousy of the neighbours,... اَلفَقْرُ صَلاحُ المُؤمِنِ، ومُريحُهُ مِنْ حَسَدِ الجيرانِ، وتَمَلُّقِ الإخْوانِ،وَ تَسَلُّطِ السُّلْطانِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Verily poverty is disgracer for the soul, a confounder of the intellect, and a bringer of sorrows. إنَّ الفَقْرَ مِذَلَّةٌ لِلنَّفْسِ، مِدْهَشَةٌ لِلْعَقْلِ، جالِبٌ لِلْهُمُومِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Poverty causes forgetfulness. اَلفَقْرُ يُنسي۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Poverty is the adornment of faith. اَلفَقْرُ زينَةُ الإيمانِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The grave is better than poverty. اَلقَبْرُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الفَقْرِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Poverty with debt is [like] a red death. اَلفَقْرُ مَعَ الدَّيْنِ اَلْمَوْتُ الأحْمَرُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Poverty disables the astute one from [presenting] his argument. اَلفَقْرُ يُخْرِسُ الفَطِنَ عَنْ حُجَّتِهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Poverty in one’s homeland is like being a stranger in it. اَلفَقْرُ فِي الوَطَنِ غُرْبَةٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Extreme poverty is better than disgraceful affluence. اَلفَقْرُ الفادِحُ أجْمَلُ مِنَ الغِنَى الفاضِحِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم True poverty and wealth are [determined] after presenting [the account of] one’s deeds before... اَلفَقْرُ والغِنى بَعْدَ العَرْضِ عَلَى اللّهِ سُبْحانَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Love of poverty earns piety. حُبُّ الفَقْرِ يَكْسِبُ الوَرَعَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Many a poverty turns into with lasting affluence. رُبَّ فَقْر عادَ بِالغِنَى الْباقي۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The disadvantage of poverty is more praiseworthy than the arrogant insolence of wealth. ضَرَرُ الفَقْرِ أحْمَدُ مِنْ أشَرِ الغِنى۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Poverty of the soul is the worst poverty. فَقْرُ النَّفْسِ شَرُّ الفَقْرِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم All [forms of] poverty can be redressed except the poverty of foolishness. كُلُّ فَقْر يُسَدُّ إلاّ فَقْرَ الحُمْقِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Whoever manifests his poverty, lowers his status. مَنْ أظْهَرَ فَقْرَهُ أذَلَّ قَدْرَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The hardships of poverty are preferable to facing humiliation. مُقاساةُ الإقْلالِ، ولامُلاقاةُ الإذلالِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم There is no poverty with good management. لافَقْرَ مَعَ حُسْنِ تَدْبير۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The most apprising complaint is that which is enunciated by manifest affliction. أبْلَغُ الشَّكوى ما نَطَقَ بِهِ ظاهِرُ البَلْوى۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The little that one is in need of is better than the plenty that one is needless of. قَليلٌ يُفْتَقَرُ إلَيْهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ كَثير يُسْتَغْنى عَنْهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم There is no shame in being far away from one’s hometown; the only shame is being indigent in... لَيْسَ فِي الغُرْبَةِ عارٌ، إنَّما العارُ فِي الوَطَنِ اَلاِفْتِقارُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who pretends to be poor, becomes poor. مَنْ تَفاقَرَ اِفْتَقَرَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Displaying neediness gives rise to poverty. إظْهارُ التَّباوُسِ يَجْلِبُ الفَقْرَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Poverty with debt is the greatest wretchedness. اَلفَقْرُ مَعَ الدَّيْنِ اَلشَّقاءُ الأكْبَرُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
