Grief

Grief makes one dispirited and ends one’s joy. اَلْغَمُّ يَقْبِضُ النَّفْسَ، ويَطْوِى الاِنْبِساطَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Sorrow destroys the body. اَلحُزنُ يَهْدِمُ الجَسَدَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Sorrows are the ailment of the hearts. اَلأحْزانُ سُقْمُ القُلُوبِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Grief is the distinguishing mark of the believers. اَلحُزْنُ شِعارُ المُؤْمِنينَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Grief wears away the body. اَلْهَمُّ يُذيبُ الجَسَدَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Sorrow and anxiety do not bring back what has been lost. اَلْحُزْنُ والجَزَعُ لايَرُدّانِ الفائِتَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم To the extent of pleasure, there is distress. بِقَدْرِ اللَّذَّةِ يَكُونُ التَّغْصيصُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who bears his distress [patiently] realizes [his] opportunities. مَنْ تَجَرَّعَ الغُصَصَ أدْرَكَ الفُرَصَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Grief is one of the two senilities. اَلْهَمُّ أحَدُ الهِرَمَيْنِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Cast away the sorrows that come upon you through resolute patience and virtuous certitude. إطْرَحْ عَنْكَ وارِداتِ الهُمُومِ بِعَزائِمِ الصَّبْرِ، وحُسْنِ اليَقينِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Grief emaciates the body. اَلْهَمُّ يُنْحِلُ البَدَنَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Grief is an ailment of the soul. اَلغَمُّ مَرَضُ النَّفْسِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم To the extent of endeavours, there are anxieties. عَلى قَدْرِ الهِمَمِ تَكُونُ الهُمُومُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم How many a sorrowful person has been driven to perpetual bliss by his sorrow. كَمْ مِنْ حَزين وَفَدَ بِهِ حُزْنُهُ عَلى سُرُورِ الأبَدِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One whose grief increases, his sorrow becomes permanent. مَنْ كَثُرَ غَمُّهُ تَأبَّدَ حُزْنُهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم To the extent of [one’s material] acquisition, there are heartaches. عَلى قَدْرِ القِنْيَةِ تَكُونُ الغُمُومُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم For every distress there is a relief. لِكُلِّ هَمّ فَرَجٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who continuously worries is overpowered by sorrow. مَنِ اسْتَدامَ الهَمَّ غَلَبَ عَلَيْهِ الحُزْنُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One whose grief increases, his body becomes sick. مَنْ كَثُرَ هَمُّهُ سَقِمَ بَدَنُهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One whose entire concern is for his Hereafter attains what he hopes for. مَنْ جَعَلَ كُلَّ هَمِّهِ لآخِرَتِهِ ظَفِرَ بِالمَأْمُولِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
