The most pleasant life is [a life of] contentment. أطْيَبُ العَيْشِ القَناعَةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The person with the worst lifestyle of all people is the jealous one. أسْوَءُ النّاسِ عَيْشاً الحَسُودُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The most felicitous lifestyle is achieved by abandoning unnecessary constraints [and formalities]. أهْنَى العَيْشِ إطْراحُ الكُلَفِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Of all the people, the person who has the best lifestyle is one in whose grace other people live. أحْسَنُ النّاسِ عَيْشاً مَنْ عاشَ النّاسُ في فَضْلِهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The person with the most blessed lifestyle is one who has been granted contentment by Allah, the... أنْعَمُ النّاسِ عَيْشاً مَنْ مَنَحَهُ اللّهُ سُبْحانَهُ القَناعَةَ، وأصْلَحَ لَهُ زَوْجَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Verily the person who has the happiest life of all people is one who is satisfied with what Allah... إنَّ أهْنَأَ النّاسِ عَيْشاً مَنْ كانَ بِما قَسَمَ اللّهُ لَهُ راضِياً۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Verily the person with the best lifestyle is one through whose life the lives of others are... إنَّ أحْسَنَ النّاسِ عَيْشاً، مَنْ حَسُنَ عَيْشُ النّاسِ في عَيْشِهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Death is preferable to abasement. اَلمَنِيَّةُ، ولاالدَّنِيَةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Death is preferable to succumbing to disgrace (or giving up freedom). اَلمَوْتُ، ولاابْتِذالُ الخِزْيَةِ(الحُرِّيَةُ)۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Having less is preferable to humiliation. اَلتَّقَلُّلُ، ولاالتّذَلُّلُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Management [and planning] makes life good. صَلاحُ العَيْشِ التَّدْبيرُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The mainstay of life is good estimation and its basis is good management. قِوامُ العَيْشِ حُسْنُ التَّقْديرِ، ومِلاكُهُ حُسْنُ التَّدْبيرِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who lives, dies. مَنْ عاشَ ماتَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who lives [a long life], loses his loved ones. مَنْ عاشَ فَقَدَ أحِبَّتَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Early death is better than a wretched life. مَوْتٌ وَحِيٌّ خَيْرٌ مِنْ عَيْش شَقِّي۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Life has sweetness and bitterness. اَلعَيْشُ يَحْلُو ويَمُرُّ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The bane of livelihood is mismanagement. آفَةُ المَعاشِ سُوءُ التَّدْبيرِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Three things don’t let their possessor enjoy a happy life: malice, jealousy and bad character. ثَلاثٌ لايُهْنَأُ لِصاحِبِهِنَّ عَيْشٌ: اَلحِقْدُ،والحَسَدُ، وسُوءُ الخُلْقِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The beauty of life is [in] contentment. جَمالُ العَيْشِ القَناعَةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who stays in the company of his enemy does not enjoy a happy life. لَمْ يَهْنَأِ العَيْشَ مَنْ قارَنَ الضِدَّ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Good estimation with sufficiency is better than striving in extravagance. حُسْنُ التَّقْديرِ مَعَ الكَفافِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ السَّعْيِ فِي الإسْرافِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Preferring comfort [over hard work] cuts off the means of profit [and benefit]. إيثارُ الدَّعَةِ يَقْطَعُ أسْبابَ المَنْفَعَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
