Habit

The best worship is overcoming [a bad] habit. أفْضَلُ العِبادَةِ غَلَبَةُ العادَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Habit is second nature. اَلعادَةُ طَبْعُ ثان۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Habit is an enslaving enemy. اَلعادَةُ عَدُوٌُّّ مُتَمَلِّكٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The bane of training [of the self] is the overpowering habit. آفَةُ الرِّياضَةِ غَلَبَةُ العادَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Through overpowering [evil] habits, there is attainment of lofty stations. بِغَلَبَةِ العاداتِ الوُصُولُ إلى أشْرَفِ المَقاماتِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Superfluity [in speech] is one of the worst habits. بِئْسَ العادَةُ الفُضُولُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Change your habits and acts of worship will become easier for you [to perform]. غَيِّروُا العاداتِ تَسْهُلْ عَلَيْكُمْ الطّاعاتُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who submits to his [evil] habits does not attain lofty stations. غَيْرُ مُدْرِكِ الدَرَّجاتِ مَنْ أطاعَ العاداتِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Habit has authority over every human being. لِلْعادَةِ عَلى كُلِّ إنْسان سُلْطانٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Whoever makes jesting his habit, his seriousness is not known. مَنْ جَعَلَ دَيْدَنَهُ الهَزْلَ لَمْ يُعْرَفْ جِدُّهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
