The Cognizant

Every cognizant one is sorrowful. كُلُّ عارِف مَهْمُومٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Every cognizant one is averse [to the temporary pleasures of this world]. كُلُّ عارِف عائِفٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم How can one know others when he is ignorant of himself?! كَيْفَ يَعْرِفُ غَيْرَهُ مَنْ يَجْهَلُ نَفْسَهُ؟! —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The cognizant one is he who knows his soul and thus frees it and purifies it from all that... اَلعارِفُ مَنْ عَرَفَ نَفْسَهُ فَأَعْتَقَها، ونَزَّهَها عَنْ كُلِّ ما يُبَعِّدُها وَيُوبِقُها۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The face of the cognizant one is cheerful and smiling while his heart is fearful and sad. اَلعارِفُ وَجْهُهُ مُسْتَبْشِرٌ مُتَبَسِّمٌ، وقَلْبُهُ وَجِلٌ مَحْزُونٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
