Reprimand

Goodwill [and friendly admonishment] is the life of friendship [and affection]. اَلْعِتابُ حَياةُ المَوَدَّةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Too much reprimand indicates [one’s] suspicion. كَثْرَةُ العِتابِ تُؤْذِنُ بِالاِرْتيابِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم He who seeks forgiveness (or is indigent) is not reprimanded. ما أُعْتِبَ مَنِ اغْتَفَرَ (افْتَقَرَ)۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Do not reprimand the ignorant one as he will hate you, but reprimand the wise one as he will love... لاتُعاتِبِ الجاهِلَ فَيَمْقُتْكَ، وعاتِبِ العاقِلَ يُحْبِبْكَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Never be excessive in reprimanding, for indeed it brings about ill feelings and calls toward... لا تُكْثِرَنَّ العِتابَ، فَإنَّهُ يُورِثُ الضَّغينَةَ ويَدْعُو إلَى البَغْضاءِ، واسْتَعْتِبْ لِمَنْ رَجَوْتَ اِعْتابَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم When you reprimand then leave some room [to make amends and do not be excessive in reprimanding]. إذا عاتَبْتَ فَاسْتَبْقِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
