Stinginess And Avarice

Stinginess is one of the two forms of poverty. البُخْلُ أحَدُ الفَقْرَينِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Stinginess earns dishonor and makes one enter hellfire. اَلبُخْلُ يَكْسِبُ العارَ، ويُدْخِلُ النَّارَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Stinginess in spending from one’s wealth that which Allah, the Glorified, has made obligatory, is... البُخْلُ بِإخْراجِ مَاافتَرَضَهُ اللّهُ سُبْحانَهُ مِنَ الأمْوالِ أقْبَحُ البُخلِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Protect yourselves from vehement miserliness, malice, anger and jealousy and prepare for each of... اِحْتَِرسُوا مِنْ سَوْرَةِ الجِمْدِ(الحَمد)، والحِقْدِ، والغَضَبِ، والحَسَدِ، وَأعِدُّوا لِكُلِّ شَيْء مِنْ ذلِكَ عُدَّةً... —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be wary of stinginess, for it is ignobility and [leads to] vilification. اِحْذَرُوا البُخْلَ فَإنَّهُ لُؤْمٌ ومَسَبَّةٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be wary of avarice, for verily it brings hate, tarnishes [one’s] good qualities and exposes... اِحْذَرُوا الشُّحَّ، فَإنَّهُ يُكْسِبُ المَقْتَ، ويَشِينُ المَحاسِنَ، ويُشيعُ العُيوبَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم I bid you not to adorn yourself with stinginess, for it will disparage you near those who are close... إيّاكَ والتَّحَلِّيَ بِالبُخْلِ، فَإنَّهُ يُزري بِكَ عِندَ القَريبِ (الغَريبِ)، وَيُمَقِّتُكَ إلَى النَّسيبِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم I bid you to refrain from avarice, for it is the garment of indigence and the bridle that is used... إيّاك والشُّحَّ فَإنَّهُ جِلبابُ المَسْكَنَةِ، وزِمامٌ يُقادُ بِهِ إلى كُلِّ دِناءَة۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم I bid you to refrain from stinginess, for the miser is hated by strangers and shunned by those who... إيّاكُمْ والبُخلَ، فَإنَّ البَخيلَ يَمْقَتُهُ الغَريبُ، ويَنْفُرُ مِنْهُ القَريبُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The worst stinginess is withholding money from those who deserve it. أقْبَحُ البُخْلِ مَنْعُ الأمْوالِ مِنْ مُسْتَحِقِّها۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Stinginess is [a form of] poverty. اَلبُخلُ فَقْرٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Avarice leads to vilification. اَلشُّحُّ مَسَبَّةٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Making too many excuses is a sign of stinginess. كَثْرَةُ التَّعَلُّلِ آيَةُ البُخْلِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Avarice earns vilification. اَلشُّحُّ يَكْسِبُ المَسَبَّةَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Stinginess degrades its possessor. اَلبُخْلُ يُزْري بِصاحِبِهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Stinginess earns condemnation. اَلبُخْلُ يَكْسِبُ الذَّمَّ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Stinginess gives rise to hatred. البُخْلُ يُوجِبُ البَغْضاءَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Stinginess with what is available [in one’s possession] is thinking negatively of God. اَلبُخْلُ بِالمَوجُودِ سُوءُ الظَّنِّ بِالمَعْبُودِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Stinginess humiliates its possessor and elevates the one who turns away from it. اَلبُخْلُ يُذِلُّ مُصاحِبَهُ ويُعِزُّ مُجانِبَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Through stinginess, vilification increases. بِالبُخْلِ تَكْثُرُ المَسَبَّةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The worst trait is stinginess. بِئْسَ الخَليقَةُ البُخْلُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Excessive avarice sullies chivalry and spoils brotherhood. زِيادَةُ الشُّحِّ تَشينُ الفُتُوَّةَ وتُفْسِدُ الاُخُوَّةَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم In avarice there is vilification (and dishonour). فِي الشُّحِّ المَسَبَّةُ (السَّبَّةُ)۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Excessive avarice leads to vilification. كَثْرَةُ الشُّحِّ تُوجِبُ المَسَبَّةَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
