Calmness and Solemnity

Solemnity is the ornament of the intellect. اَلوَقارُ حِلْيَةُ العَقْلِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Solemnity supports (or gives rise to) forbearance. اَلوَقارُ يُنْجِدُ (نَتيجَةُ) الحِلْمِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Calmness is a sign of intelligence. السَّكينَةُ عُنْوانُ العَقْلِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Solemnity is evidence of nobility. اَلوَقارُ بُرْهانُ النُّبْلِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم If you act with solemnity you will be honored. إنْ تَوَقَّرْتَ أُكْرِمْتَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Through solemnity, one’s reverence increases. بِالوَقارِ تَكْثُرُ الهَيْبَةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Espouse calmness, for indeed it is the best embellishment. عَلَيْكَ بِالسَّكينَةِ فَإنَّها أفْضَلُ زينَة۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be solemn when among the people and oft-remembering [of Allah and His bounties] when alone. كُنْ فِي المَلاءِ وَقُوراً، وَكُنْ فِي الخَلاءِ ذَكُوراً۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Let solemnity be your trait, for one whose silliness increases is scorned. لِتَكُنْ شيمَتُكَ الوَقارَ فَمَنْ كَثُرَ خُرْقُهُ اُسْتُرْذِلَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who acts with solemnity is revered. مَنْ تَوَقَّرَ وُقِّرَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One whose solemnity increases, his exaltedness increases. مَنْ كَثُرَ وَقارُهُ، كَثُرَتْ جَلالَتُهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Espousing solemnity protects one from the lowliness of impetuousness. مُلازَمَةُ الوَقارِ تُؤْمِنُ دَناءَةَ الطَّيْشِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Calmness is an excellent quality. نِعْمَ الشّيمَةُ السَّكينَةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Solemnity is an excellent trait. نِعْمَ الشّيمَةُ الوَقارُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The solemnity of a man adorns him and his silliness tarnishes him. وَقارُ الرَّجُلِ يَزينُهُ، وخُرْقُهُ يَشينُهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The solemnity of an elderly person is a light and an embellishment. وَقارُ الشَّيْبِ(الرَّجُلِ) نُورٌ وزينَةٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The solemnity of old age is more beloved to me than the vigor of youth. وَقارُ الشَّيْبِ أحَبُّ إلَيَّ مِنْ نَضارَةِ الشَّبابِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
