Turning Backward

It is seldom that one who turns back [and retreats] returns to the front. قَلَّما يَعُودُ الإدْبارُ إقْبالاً۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم From the signs of turning backward is accompanying the vile. مِنْ عَلاماتِ الإدْبارِ مُقارَنَةُ الأرْذالِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم From the signs of turning backward is thinking ill of the one who gives you good advice. مِنْ عَلاماتِ الإدْبارِ سُوءُ الظَّنِّ بالنَّصيحِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Turning backward is evinced by four things: bad planning, foul extravagance, lack of consideration... يُسْتَدَلُّ علَى الإدْبارِ بِأرْبَع:سُوْءُ التَّدْبيرِ، وقُبْحُ التَّبْذيرِ، وقِلَّةُ الإعْتِبارِ، وكَثْرَةُ الاعْتِذارِ... —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The merits in advancing forward are the demerits in turning backward. المَحاسِنُ فِي الإقبالِ هِيَ المَساوي فِي الإدْبارِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
