Accompany [people] so that you may gauge [their true nature].
اِصْحَبْ تَخْتَبِرْ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who gauges [the people] detests (or keeps away from) [them].
مَنِ اخْتَبَرَ قَلا(وَ هَجَرَ)۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Being at ease with every person before gauging [them] is from lack of intellect.
اَلطُمَأنِينَةُ إلى كُلِّ أحَد قَبْلَ الاِخْتِبارِ مِنْ قُصُورِ العَقْلِ۔

One who feels at ease [with people] before gauging them, regrets.
مَنِ اطْمَأنَّ قَبلَ الاِختِبارِ نَدِمَ۔
