Tolerance

Tolerance is proof of intelligence and a symbol of excellence. اَلاِحْتِمالُ بُرْهانُ الْعَقْلِ، وعُنْوانُ الفَضْلِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Tolerance is the ornament of companionship. اَلاِحْتِمالُ زَيْنُ الرِّفاقِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Tolerance is the embellishment of politics [and leadership]. اَلاِحْتِمالُ زَيْنُ السِّياسَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Tolerance dignifies one’s status. اَلاِحْتِمالُ يُجِلُّ القَدْرَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Tolerance is a beautiful quality. الاِحْتِمالُ خُلْقٌ سَجِيحٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Tolerating meanness (or annoyance) is from nobility of character. اِحْتِمالُ الدَّنِيَّةِ (اَلأذِيَّةِ) مِنْ كَرَمِ السَّجِيَّةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم By bearing the burden of provision (for the people), praises increase. بِتَحَمُّلِ المُؤَنِ تَكْثُرُ المَحامِدُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Through increased tolerance, one’s merit (or intelligence) increases. بِكَثْرَةِ الاِحْتِمالِ يَكْثُرُ الْفَضْلُ (العَقْلُ)۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Through tolerance and forbearance, people become your helpers and supporters. بِالاِحْتِمالِ والْحِلْمِ يَكُونُ لَكَ النّاسُ أنْصاراً وأعْواناً۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The forbearing one is recognized by his increased tolerance. بِكَثْرَةِ الاِحْتِمالِ يُعْرَفُ الْحَليمُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be tolerant, [and] your status will become lofty. تَحَمَّلْ يَجِلَّ قَدْرُكَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Adopt tolerance, for verily it is [a means of] concealing faults. عَلَيْكَ بِالاِحْتِمالِ فَإنَّهُ سَتْرُ الْعُيُوبِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One whose tolerance increases becomes noble. مَنْ كَثُرَ حَمْلُهُ نَبُلَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who does not bear the burden of providing for the people has prepared his power for its... مَنْ لَمْ يَحْتَمِلْ مَؤُنَةَ النّاسِ فَقَدْ أهَّلَ قُدْرَتَهُ لاِنْتِقالِها۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم It is part of honour to tolerate the wrongdoings of [one’s] brothers. مِنَ الْكَرَمِ اِحْتِمالُ جِناياتِ الإخْوانِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Tolerate that which comes your way, for indeed tolerance is a [means of] concealing faults and... اِحْتَمِلْ ما يَمُرُّ عَلَيْكَ، فَإنَّ الاِحْتِمالَ سَتْرُ الْعُيُوبِ، وإنَّ الْعاقِلَ نِصْفُهُ اِحْتِمالٌ، ونِصْفُهُ تَغافُلٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Continually bearing the liabilities [of others] causes loftiness [of character]. إدْمانُ تَحَمُّلِ المَغارِمِ يُوجِبُ الْجَلالَةَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
