The Jealous

Happiness does not last for the jealous and the spiteful. اَلْحَسُودُ، والحَقُودُ لاتَدُومُ لَهُما مَسَرَّةٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The jealous one is always ill and the miser is always abased. اَلْحَسُودُ أبَداً عَليلٌ، والبَخيلُ أبَداً ذَلِيلٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The jealous one is always sick, even when his body is healthy. اَلْحَسُودُ دائِمُ السُّقْمِ وإنْ كانَ صَحِيحَ الجِسْمِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The jealous person is always ill. اَلْحَسُودُ أبَداً عَلِيلٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The jealous one is never cured. اَلْحَسُودُ لايَبْرَءُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The jealous one never gains authority. اَلْحَسُودُ لايَسُودُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The jealous one is angry at destiny. اَلْحَسُودُ غَضْبانٌ عَلَى القَدَرِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The jealous one has many regrets and his sins are multiplied. اَلْحَسُودُ كَثيرُ الحَسَراتِ، مُتَضاعِفُ السَّيِّئاتِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم When blessings are [openly] displayed, the enviers increase. عِنْدَ تَظاهُرِ النِّعَمِ يَكْثُرُ الحُسّادُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم I am amazed at the heedlessness of the jealous about the health of their bodies. عَجِبْتُ لِغَفْلَةِ الحُسّادِ عَنْ سَلامَةِ الأجْسادِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The jealous one has no friendship. لَيْسَ لِحَسُود خُلَّةٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One whose jealousy increases, his depression becomes prolonged. مَنْ كَثُرَ حَسَدُهُ، طالَ كَمَدُهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم How little comfort the jealous person has! ما أقَلَّ راحَةُ الحَسُودِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Because of the favour of Allah upon you, do not be jealous. لاتَكُونُوا لِفَضْلِ اللّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ حُسّاداً۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم There is no comfort for the jealous. لاراحَةَ لِحَسُود۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The jealous person will never be found happy. لايُوجَدُ الحَسُودُ مَسْرُوراً۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم A believer is never jealous. لايَكُونُ المُؤْمِنُ حَسُوداً۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم No life is more miserable than the life of the jealous and the spiteful. لاعَيْشَ أنْكَدُ مِنْ عَيْشِ الحَسُودِ والحَقُودِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The jealous person is never pleased with the one whom he is jealous of except by [his] death or... لايَرضَى الحَسُودُ عَمَّنْ يَحْسُدُهُ إلاّ بِالمَوْتِ، أوْ بِزَوالِ النِّعْمَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم It is a consolation for you that the one who is jealous of you becomes furious when you are happy. يَشْفيكَ مِنْ حاسِدِكَ أنَّهُ يَغْتاظُ عِنْدَ سُرُورِكَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم For the jealous one, there is no friendship. اَلْحَسُودُ لاخُلَّةَ لَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم For the jealous one, there is no cure. اَلْحَسُودُ لاشِفاءَ لَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The jealous person considers the cessation of a blessing from the person whom he envies to be a... اَلْحاسِدُ يَرى أنَّ زَوالَ النِّعْمَةِ عَمَّنْ يَحْسُدُهُ نِعْمَةٌ عَلَيْهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم It is amazing how heedless the jealous are of the health of the bodies! اَلْعَجَبُ لِغَفْلَةِ الحُسّادِ عَنْ سَلامَةِ الأجْسادِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
