Jealousy

The worst thing that can accompany a person is jealousy. شَرُّ ما صَحِبَ المَرْءَ الحَسَدُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Purify your hearts of jealousy, for it is a depressing enfeebler. طَهِّرُوا قُلُوبَكُمْ مِنَ الحَسَدِ، فَإنَّهُ مُكْمِدٌ مُضْني۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Just as rust corrodes iron until it causes it to waste away, so too does jealousy corrode the body... كَما أنَّ الصَّدَأَ يَأْكُلُ الحَديدَ حَتّى يُفْنِيَهُ، كَذلِكَ الحَسَدُ يُكْمِدُ الجَسَدَ حَتّى يُفْنِيَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Jealousy is not from the characteristics of the God-wary. لَيْسَ الحَسَدُ مِنْ خُلُقِ الأتْقِياءِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Jealousy towards a friend for the blessing [he has been endowed with] stems from low self-esteem. مِنْ صِغَرِ الهِمَّةِ حَسَدُ الصَّديقِ عَلَى النِّعْمَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Woe be to jealousy, how fair it is! It starts off with its companion and then kills him. وَيْحَ الحَسَدِ ما أعْدَلَهُ، بَدَأ بِصاحِبِهِ فَقَتَلَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Do not be jealous of each other, for jealousy eats away the faith like fire consumes firewood; and... لاتَحاسَدُوا فَإنَّ الحَسَدَ يَأْكُلُ الإيمانَ، كَما تَأْكُلُ النّارُ الحَطَبَ، وَلاتَباغَضُوا فَإنَّها الحالِقَةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم There is no malady like jealousy. لاداءَ كَالحَسَدِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
