Hadith #4909

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "نِعْمَ الشّيمَةُ الوَقارُ۔" which translates to

Solemnity is an excellent trait.

In this Hadith, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of having a dignified and solemn demeanor.

To understand the significance of this trait, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. In Surah Al-Hujurat (49:3), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

O you who have believed, do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet or be loud to him in speech like the loudness of some of you to others, lest your deeds become worthless while you perceive not.

This verse highlights the importance of maintaining a respectful and dignified manner when interacting with the Prophet (ﷺ) and by extension, with all those who hold positions of authority and knowledge.

Similarly, in Surah Al-Qalam (68:4), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) describes the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) saying,

And indeed, you are of a great moral character.

This verse highlights the noble character of the Prophet (ﷺ), which encompasses qualities such as solemnity, dignity, and integrity. It serves as a reminder for Muslims to strive towards embodying these traits in their own lives.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), being the gate to the city of knowledge, possessed immense wisdom and knowledge.
