(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Powerless)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

رُبَّما أدْرَكَ العاجِزُ حاجَتَهُ۔

This can be translated as,

Sometimes the powerless one acquires what he needs.

Let us delve into the meaning of this Hadith in light of the Quran.

The word (ajiz) "عاجِزُ" in this Hadith refers to someone who is weak, helpless, or lacking in power. It signifies a person who is unable to fulfill their needs or achieve their goals due to their limited capabilities. However, the Hadith highlights that even the powerless can sometimes attain what they require.

This Hadith reminds us of the numerous verses in the Quran that emphasize the power and mercy of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). Allah is the ultimate source of strength and He has the ability to grant provisions and fulfill the needs of His servants, regardless of their apparent weaknesses or limitations.

In Surah Al-Hajj, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Quran 22:11)

And among the people is he who worships Allah on an edge. If he is touched by good, he is reassured by it; but if he is struck by trial, he turns on his face [to the other direction]. He has lost [this] world and the Hereafter. That is what is the manifest loss.

This verse highlights the importance of relying on Allah alone, regardless of one's circumstances. Even if a person is weak or facing difficulties, they should turn to Allah for help and guidance. Allah has the power to provide for them and fulfill their needs, as stated in the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ).

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Quran 65:3)

And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.

This verse emphasizes the importance of placing our trust in Allah and relying on Him completely. When we recognize our own weaknesses and turn to Allah for help, He will provide for us and fulfill our needs. Allah's power and ability to grant provisions are limitless, and He has ordained a set extent for everything.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a reminder to Muslims that even when we feel powerless or incapable, we should never lose hope in Allah's mercy and assistance. We should strive to fulfill our needs through lawful means, while also recognizing that true success and provisions come from Allah alone.

This Hadith also teaches us humility and reliance on Allah. It encourages us to seek His help and guidance in all aspects of our lives, knowing that He is the ultimate source of strength and provisions. It reminds us that even the weakest among us can attain what they need if they turn to Allah with sincerity and trust.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us that Allah's power and mercy are not limited by our weaknesses or limitations. It encourages us to rely on Allah and seek His assistance in fulfilling our needs. By recognizing our own powerlessness and turning to Allah, we can acquire what we require, regardless of our apparent limitations. May Allah grant us the wisdom to understand and implement the teachings of this Hadith in our lives.
