ما مِنْ شَيْء أحَبُّ إلَى اللّهِ سُبْحانَهُ مِنْ أنْ يُسْألْ۔
There is nothing more beloved to Allah, the Glorified, than being beseeched.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Supplication And The Supplicant)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,
There is nothing more beloved to Allah, the Glorified, than being beseeched.
This Hadith emphasizes the importance of supplication and seeking help from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). Let us delve deeper into the meaning of this Hadith in light of the Quran.
The key word in this Hadith is (yus'al) "يُسْألْ", which means "to be beseeched" or
to be asked for help.
This word highlights the act of supplication, where a person humbly requests assistance, guidance, or blessings from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It is important to note that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) Himself encourages us to ask Him for our needs and desires.
In the Quran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Ghafir (40:60),
And your Lord says, 'Call upon Me; I will respond to you.'
This verse clearly indicates that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) loves to be beseeched and promises to respond to our supplications. It shows that asking Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) for help is an act of worship that pleases Him.
Another verse that supports the concept of supplication is found in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:186), where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,
And when My servants ask you concerning Me, indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me.
This verse assures us that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is always close to us and listens to our prayers. It further emphasizes the significance of supplication in our relationship with Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
Now, let us reflect on the connotation of this Hadith. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his deep knowledge and wisdom, reminds us that there is nothing more beloved to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) than when His servants turn to Him in supplication. This Hadith highlights the immense value and reward of seeking help directly from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) in times of need, rather than relying solely on worldly means or seeking assistance from others.
When we beseech Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), we acknowledge our dependence on Him and recognize His infinite power and mercy. It is an act of humility and submission, demonstrating our trust in His divine wisdom and ability to fulfill our needs. By turning to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) in supplication, we strengthen our bond with Him and seek His guidance and blessings in all aspects of our lives.
Moreover, this Hadith serves as a reminder that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) loves to be asked, and He is ever ready to respond to our prayers. It encourages us to have faith in the power of supplication and to approach Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) with sincerity and conviction. We should never underestimate the impact of our supplications, as they have the potential to bring about positive changes in our lives and the lives of others.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the importance of supplication and seeking help directly from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It emphasizes that there is nothing more beloved to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) than when His servants beseech Him. By turning to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) in supplication, we strengthen our relationship with Him, demonstrate our trust in His power, and open ourselves to His divine guidance and blessings. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to seek His help and blessings through sincere supplication.
