Hadith #2975

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure and noble Ahl al-Bayt, and his righteous companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

ما شَكَكْتُ فِي الحَقِّ مُذْ أُرِيتُهُ۔

which translates to,

I have never doubted in the truth since the time it was shown to me.

This enlightening Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reflects his unwavering faith and certainty in the truth of Islam.

Let us delve deeper into the words of this Hadith. The word (shakkatu) "شَكَكْتُ" comes from the root word (shakka) "شَكَّ", which means doubt or uncertainty. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is emphasizing that he has never experienced any doubt in the truth of Islam. To further understand the significance of this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Hujurat (49:15),

Indeed, the believers are those who believe in Allah and His Messenger and then do not doubt but strive with their properties and their lives in the cause of Allah. It is those who are the truthful.

This verse emphasizes the importance of unwavering faith and the absence of doubt in the hearts of believers. It is the believers who wholeheartedly accept the truth of Islam and dedicate their lives to its cause. Another verse that resonates with the message of this Hadith is found in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:256), where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.

This verse highlights the clarity and truthfulness of Islam, as it distinguishes the right path from the wrong. Those who firmly believe in Allah and reject falsehood have indeed grasped the most trustworthy handhold. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) embodies this concept, as he never wavered in his faith and firmly held onto the truth of Islam.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement serves as a powerful reminder for all Muslims. It encourages us to strengthen our faith, deepen our knowledge, and eliminate any doubts that may arise. By following in the footsteps of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), we can attain a level of certainty and conviction in the truth of Islam that will guide us throughout our lives.

As Muslims, we should reflect upon Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement and strive to emulate his unwavering faith and conviction. We should seek knowledge, strengthen our understanding of Islam, and eliminate any doubts that may hinder our spiritual growth. By doing so, we can follow in the footsteps of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and become steadfast believers who are firmly rooted in the truth of Islam. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the strength and guidance to remain steadfast in our faith and protect us from any doubts or uncertainties.
