Hadith #1283

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

One who believes in Allah [and attests to His oneness] is saved.

Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this wise utterance in the light of the Quran.

The word (saddaqa) "صَدَّقَ" in Arabic, which is translated as "believes" or "attests to," carries a profound significance. It implies not only the affirmation of the existence of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), but also the acceptance of His oneness, His attributes, and His authority. It encompasses the recognition of Allah as the Creator, the Sustainer, and the Ultimate Judge of all affairs.

To understand the importance of this belief, we turn to the Quran, where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the significance of monotheism. In Surah Al-Ikhlas (Chapter 112), Allah says, (Quran 112:1-4)

Say, 'He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent.'

This ayah highlights the essence of Tawheed (oneness of Allah) and the rejection of any partners or equals to Allah.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-An'am (Chapter 6), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states, (Quran 6:74)

And [mention, O Muhammad], when Abraham said to his father Azar, 'Do you take idols as deities? Indeed, I see you and your people to be in manifest error.'

Here, Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) challenges the polytheistic beliefs of his father and his people, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and believing in the oneness of Allah.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the profound consequences of this belief in Allah's oneness. It states that the one who truly believes in Allah and attests to His oneness is saved. This salvation encompasses both worldly and spiritual aspects.

On a worldly level, belief in Allah's oneness leads to a life of purpose and guidance. It provides a moral compass, guiding Muslims to make righteous choices and avoid sinful actions. This belief instills a sense of accountability, knowing that every action will be weighed on the Day of Judgment. It motivates Muslims to strive for justice, kindness, and compassion in their interactions with others.

In the spiritual realm, belief in Allah's oneness brings about a deep connection with the Creator. It leads to a state of tranquility, knowing that Allah is the ultimate source of guidance, mercy, and forgiveness. This belief strengthens the bond between the believer and Allah, enabling them to seek His pleasure and attain closeness to Him.

The consequences of this belief are reflected in the life of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) himself. His unwavering faith in Allah's oneness guided his every action and decision. His knowledge of Allah's attributes and authority allowed him to lead with wisdom, justice, and compassion. His belief in the ultimate salvation granted him the courage to face the challenges and trials of life with unwavering resilience.

As Muslims, we are reminded by this Hadith and the supporting Quranic verses to strengthen our belief in Allah's oneness. We must strive to deepen our understanding of His attributes and authority, and align our lives with His guidance. By doing so, we can experience the true salvation that comes from a sincere and unwavering belief in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). May Allah grant us the ability to strengthen our faith and attain salvation.
