Hadith #8539

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure and noble Ahl al-Bayt, and his righteous companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "كَفى بِالفِكْرِ رُشْداً۔" which can be translated as

Contemplation is sufficient for right guidance.

In this beautiful saying, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the importance of deep thinking and reflection in attaining true guidance and righteousness.

The word (fikr) "فِكْرِ" in this Hadith refers to contemplation, deep thought, and reflection. It encompasses the process of pondering over the meanings and implications of various matters. The word (rushdan) "رُشْداً" in this Hadith means right guidance, righteousness, or the path of truth. It refers to the state of being on the correct path, both in terms of belief and action. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the importance of reflection and contemplation in the Quran, urging believers to ponder over the signs of His creation and the lessons contained therein.

In Surah Al-Imran (3:190), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.

This verse encourages Muslims to observe and reflect upon the natural world, recognizing it as a manifestation of Allah's wisdom and power. By contemplating the intricate design and harmony of creation, one can gain a deeper understanding of the Creator and His guidance.

Similarly, in Surah Al-Hajj (22:46), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

Have they not traveled through the land, and have they hearts by which to reason and ears by which to hear? For indeed, it is not eyes that are blinded, but blinded are the hearts which are within the breasts.

This verse highlights the importance of using one's intellect and reasoning abilities to comprehend the signs of Allah's existence and guidance. It emphasizes that true blindness lies in the hearts that fail to reflect and understand.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement echoes these Quranic teachings, emphasizing the power of contemplation in attaining guidance.
