Hadith #7217

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

The intelligent person is one whose words are affirmed by his actions.

This thought-provoking saying emphasizes the importance of aligning our words with our deeds, highlighting the significance of integrity and consistency in our character.

Let us delve into the key words of this Hadith. The word (intelligent person) "عاقِلُ" refers to an individual who possesses wisdom, understanding, and sound judgment. It encompasses intellectual capacity as well as moral and ethical intelligence. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes that true intelligence is not limited to mere intellectual prowess, but rather encompasses the integration of knowledge and action.

The word (affirmed) "صَدَّقَ" is derived from the root word "صدق" which means truthfulness, sincerity, and authenticity. It signifies the alignment between one's words and actions, where one's statements are a true reflection of their deeds. It implies that an intelligent person is one who speaks the truth and then acts upon it, ensuring that their words are not empty promises but are substantiated by their actions.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Asr (103:1-3),

By time, indeed, mankind is in loss, except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.

This verse emphasizes the importance of combining belief with righteous actions. It highlights that true success lies in not only having faith but also translating it into righteous deeds and encouraging others towards truth and patience.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Hujurat (49:11), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one's] faith. And whoever does not repent - then it is those who are the wrongdoers.

This verse emphasizes the importance of avoiding hypocrisy and treating others with respect and dignity. It encourages Muslims to align their words with their actions and warns against the negative consequences of hypocrisy.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith serves as a reminder for Muslims to strive for consistency and integrity in their character. It urges us to be mindful of our words and ensure that they are a true reflection of our actions. When our words and actions are in harmony, we not only gain the trust and respect of others but also strengthen our own faith and self-worth.

By doing so, we exemplify the true essence of an intelligent person, one who upholds their principles through their actions.

Conversely, if we profess to be compassionate and caring individuals, our actions should reflect this. We should actively engage in acts of kindness, empathy, and charity towards those in need. By embodying these qualities, we not only fulfill our duty as Muslims but also inspire others to follow suit.
