Hadith #7052

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

The fruit of intellect is association with the virtuous.

This profound statement highlights the significance of surrounding oneself with righteous and virtuous individuals in order to cultivate and enhance one's intellect.

Let us delve into the key words of this Hadith. The word (intellect) "عَقْلِ" refers to the faculty of reasoning, understanding, and discernment that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) has bestowed upon human beings. It is through the intellect that we are able to comprehend and make sense of the world around us. The word (association) "صُحْبَةُ" refers to companionship or being in the company of others. And finally, the word (virtuous) "أخْيارِ" refers to those who possess moral excellence and righteousness.

To further understand the wisdom behind this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the importance of surrounding oneself with righteous individuals and seeking their company. In Surah Al-Kahf (18:28), Allah says,

And keep yourself patient [by being] with those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening, seeking His countenance.

Additionally, in Surah Al-Anfal (8:46), Allah advises the believers,

And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not dispute and [thus] lose courage and [then] your strength would depart; and be patient. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.
