Hadith #5183

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "الشَّرَهُ أوَّلُ الطَّمَعِ", which can be translated as

Voraciousness is the beginning of avarice.

The word (sharah) "شَّرَهُ" refers to an intense desire or greed for something, particularly when it comes to material possessions or wealth. Voraciousness and avarice can blind us to the blessings and provisions that Allah has already bestowed upon us, causing us to lose sight of our ultimate purpose in life.
