اَلجَنَّةُ جَزاءُ كُلِّ مُؤْمِن مُحسِن۔
Paradise is the reward of every righteous believer.
— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: Paradise And The People Of Paradise)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Blessings and peace be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure and noble family, the Ahl al-Bayt, and his righteous companions.
The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,
الجنة جزاء كل مؤمن محسن
which translates to
Paradise is the reward of every righteous believer.
This thought-provoking Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) encapsulates the ultimate goal and aspiration of every Muslim - to attain Paradise through righteousness and good deeds.
Let us delve deeper into the words used in this Hadith. Firstly, (Paradise) "الجنة" refers to the eternal abode of bliss and happiness that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) has promised to His righteous servants. It is a place of unimaginable beauty and tranquility, where believers will be rewarded for their faith and good actions.
Next, (reward) "جزاء" signifies the recompense or compensation given by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) to His servants for their righteous deeds. It is a manifestation of His mercy and justice, as He bestows blessings upon those who strive to please Him.
The term (believer) "مؤمن" refers to a person who has complete faith in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and His Messenger (ﷺ), and who adheres to the principles and teachings of Islam. A true believer not only has faith in their heart but also demonstrates it through their actions and behavior.
Lastly, (righteous) "محسن" describes a person who consistently performs good deeds and acts of kindness, striving to please Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) in all aspects of their life. A righteous individual goes beyond the basic obligations of Islam and seeks to excel in their worship, character, and interactions with others.
To understand the significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran, where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the rewards and blessings that await the righteous believers. For example, in Surah Al-Imran (3:133), Allah says,
And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for the righteous.
Furthermore, in Surah Al-Kahf (18:107), Allah states,
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - they will have the Gardens of Paradise as a lodging.
These verses highlight the correlation between faith, righteous actions, and the ultimate reward of Paradise. It is not enough to merely believe; one must also strive to do good and be virtuous in order to attain the eternal bliss promised by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith serves as a reminder and motivation for Muslims to continuously strive for righteousness and excellence in their actions. It encourages us to go beyond the minimum requirements of our faith and to seek opportunities to do good in all aspects of our lives.
By embodying the qualities of a righteous believer, we not only increase our chances of attaining Paradise but also contribute to the betterment of society and the fulfillment of our purpose as Muslims. Our acts of kindness, honesty, and compassion have a ripple effect, spreading positivity and inspiring others to follow the path of righteousness.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us that Paradise is the ultimate reward for every believer who strives to be righteous. It emphasizes the importance of faith, good deeds, and the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of our lives. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to be among the righteous and bless us with the eternal bliss of Paradise.
