(Ghurar al-Hikam: God-Given Success)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his purified progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

One who is not assisted by God-given success does not turn towards the truth.

This wise utterance highlights the importance of divine assistance in guiding individuals towards the path of truth. Let us delve deeper into the words of this Hadith and explore its implications in light of the Quran.

The word (tawfiq) "تَوْفِيقُ" in the Hadith refers to the divine assistance and guidance that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) bestows upon His servants. It is through this tawfiq that individuals are able to recognize and embrace the truth. Without this assistance, one may remain oblivious to the reality and fail to turn towards the path of righteousness.

The Quran provides several verses that emphasize the significance of divine assistance in guiding individuals towards the truth. In Surah Yunus, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states, (Quran 6:107-108)

And if Allah had willed, they would not have associated. And We have not appointed you over them as a guardian, nor are you a manager over them. And do not insult those they invoke other than Allah, lest they insult Allah in enmity without knowledge. Thus We have made pleasing to every community their deeds. Then to their Lord is their return, and He will inform them about what they used to do.

This verse highlights that it is Allah's will and divine assistance that determines whether individuals are guided towards the truth or not. It is not within the control of any human being to guide others without the assistance of Allah. Therefore, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes that without the tawfiq from Allah, one cannot truly turn towards the truth.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Qasas, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states, (Quran 29:48-49)

And you did not recite before it any scripture, nor did you inscribe one with your right hand. Otherwise the falsifiers would have had [cause for] doubt. Rather, the Qur'an is distinct verses [preserved] within the breasts of those who have been given knowledge. And none reject Our verses except the wrongdoers.

This verse highlights that the Quran is a divine revelation, preserved within the hearts of those who have been given knowledge. It is through the tawfiq of Allah that individuals are able to comprehend and embrace the truth contained within the Quran. Without this divine assistance, people may reject the verses of the Quran and remain in ignorance.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a reminder that true guidance and understanding can only be attained through the assistance of Allah. It emphasizes the need for humility and reliance on Allah's guidance in our pursuit of truth. It also highlights the importance of recognizing that guidance ultimately comes from Allah, and that human efforts alone are insufficient to attain true understanding.

This Hadith also carries profound implications for our personal and spiritual growth. It reminds us that success in our endeavors, whether they be in seeking knowledge, practicing righteousness, or striving for excellence, is ultimately dependent on the tawfiq from Allah. It encourages us to constantly seek the assistance of Allah in our pursuit of truth and righteousness, and to never underestimate the power of divine guidance in our lives.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us that without the divine assistance of Allah, individuals cannot truly turn towards the truth. It reminds us of the importance of relying on Allah's guidance in our pursuit of knowledge and righteousness. May Allah grant us all the tawfiq to seek and embrace the truth, and may He guide us on the straight path.
